YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES :DD Torch Relay !

After the Torch Relay on Wednesday, although initially, I feel it as a waste of time, but now after learning more bout the youth olympics games, I felt that despite the heat and the long wait

, we should be proud of standing there as Singapore managed to get nominated for hosting the YoG and not only should we feel proud and patriotic for our own nation, we should be honored that we can see Singaporeans wearing the YoG shirts and carrying the YoG lamp towards the clock tower. ( We were stationed alongside the road before the clock tower)

Think about it, would we be able to see even such people coming here with everyone wearing the yog shirt? Would we be able to gather as a school together to watch such an event? -even if it's boring:D-

We must understand that this is our country, our nation and we should feel that everything we do for Singapore was worth the time. Because S'pore is our homeland after all.

Therefore, we must understand that the youth olympic games is an important aspect.. essential for Singapore to shine as a little red dot

Hardly do we get such a chance to show our capability to the world so gear up, be ready, and stand up for Singapore.

The Chinese language is illusive to English speaking world, almost seems to be a complex mystery intimidating to unravel and to understand.

If you wish to learn Chinese, then use it as a bridge to not only communication with this beautiful culture, but learn Chinese to harvest the history and ways of their world as well.

But why learn Chinese? could be the question that you are wondering :]

Because today’s world almost insists on it.

With our increasing love for the Chinese culture, like the martial arts, or media (Who can forget Jacki Chan), or even Chinese food…we are quickly merging cultures together today then we ever did in past. Great inspirations have come out of the eastern ways of life, and in a hungry way to consume them, and learn all about them, the need to learn Chinese has surfaced. In the western world, the fast paced, time pressed crunches have taken their toll, and now we actively speak of not our mother language, but more of other languages like English. To learn Chinese…whether it be the arts, the words, the ways, just remember, by doing so, we are merging another culture’s layers and sewn them in as our own. The influence of the Chinese culture is undeniable and we should learn to embrace it and cherish this beautiful culture and language (:

And perhaps, you will want to learn Chinese for future purposes - for an upcoming trip to China, or a hobby, or maybe just for simple understanding of a new friend, whatever the reason behind the spark.

Learn Chinese to have an experience culturally. Learn Chinese for application in your job. Learn Chinese for knowledge, for wisdom and balance in your life. Learn Chinese to step into the future now. NDP celebrations ! :D

I'm reviving my blog for english ace.. the only reason why im doing so perhaps.. haha :D
So as the national day parade 2010 whizzes past on 9th August 2010, you saw the event take shape before your very eyes.

On the actual day itself, the whole nation gathers to watch - either at the venue or live on TV - favorites like the march past, aerial flight past, armored vehicles rolling down the streets, the NDP show and of course the favorite, the fireworks.

Although most of the people in my neighborhood seemed to take the Monday as any other normal day, I was full of pride and nevertheless, never more enthusiastic to celebrate this national day. To me, it was a once in a year kind of event and this was an event unlike no other - an event that only we, as true Singaporeans could enjoy and appreciate. The importance was not behind the numerous performances put up on that day, but it showed the success that S'pore had now after all the hard work put in by many in Singapore's journey right after its independence.

Furthermore, I find performances and the annual ndp parade meaningful as Singaporeans who were working or living abroad could be reminded of Singapore through the performances and it would invoke sentimental emotions in them and also their long lost patriotism for Singapore, and that Singapore will always be their homeland and they will always belong in Singapore wherever they are. Memories of Singapore will also be part of them.. wherever they stay :D

Task 2

Complete the template provided in Annex A, focusing on (1) Point of View; (2) Situation and Setting; (3) Language/Diction; and (4) Personal Response, and post your response to Task 2 on your blog. This template is based on John Lye’s ‘Critical Analysis of Poetry’, and you can make reference to this in Annex B when in doubt.

In this poem, Hubert is an American soldier during the Vietnam War who wanted the war to stop and was strongly against modern warfare.

1. Point of View

The writer could foresee the impacts of Agent Orange and was writing in a harsh tone that criticizes the Americans of their mistake in releasing the chemicals and causing grave consequences.

Evidence: First stanza line 1 where the poet wrote “America did not foresee”.

Elaboration: This shows that the speaker had felt infuriated by the devastating impacts of ‘Agent Orange’ used by the Americans during the ever-lasting Vietnam War, resulting many generations to be affected. Perhaps, the speaker was an American soldier who had experienced the war before, hence, he was able to see the dire consequences of modern warfare on the innocent people.

The poet also felt that the Americans were the "root of all evil" and they were the reason for why there were so many casualties and consequences in the millions of people.

Evidence: In second stanza line 8, the poet wrote “Nefariously America led astray”

Elaboration: The speaker felt that the actions of the Americans were brutal and inhumane as they had caused many deaths and harmed the younger generations, and this drove America into a state of confusion as it was being regarded as a "top murderer" and without any directions, America walked on aimlessly and was led astray.
In addition, due to the fact that the Americans wanted to win the Vietnam War badly, invokes them to use the highly dangerous ‘Agent Orange’ on the Vietnamese, however, they were unable to foresee the consequences caused by the use of ‘Agent Orange’ themselves.

The poet also had a "Pro-life attitude"

Evidence - "Toll on the innocent and unborn."

Elaboration - The writer feels that war itself actually punishes more than what it should. Apart from just soldiers whose lives are sacrificed in war, innocent people and unborn fetus were also killed in war by the use of 'Agent Orange'. This expresses how the writer compares the severity of the American's mistake with innocent beings, thus the pro-life attitude.

2. Situation and Setting

- Emotional
"Toll on the innocent and unborn."

The poet emphasizes about the negative impacts of war by relating to the depression of the innocent people who were killed in the midst of war, therefore he focuses on emotional conflicts by conveying them through harsh words like "toll" which is a pun for death (:

- Saddening
“Generations untold WILL pay”

The situation was very saddening and helpless as the poet felt that the modern warfare used in the war would only cause more harm on the younger generations who would suffer a lot. Thus, this shows the sadness and cruelty of war on the innocent ones. By emphasising on "WILL", he was firm and sure that the people of the next generations will pay for all the consequences and aftereffects of the chemicals due to the mistake of the Americans and also shows his attitude towards the Americans - A sense of deep hatred and disappointment.

3. Language/Diction

-“Potpourri”

“Potpourri” means a mixture of materials or substances.
In this poem, ‘potpourri’ is used to refer to the large-scaled mixture of deaths caused as a result of war, thus showing the devastating impacts of warfare on the people and how serious the consequences were.

-“Toll”

“toll” means a payment or price that people have to pay.
However, in this poem, the writer uses toll here - “toll on the innocent and unborn” which shows the sacrificial of innocent lives in the war and depicts the pessimistic view of war where there were massive deaths. Thus, by using toll in the sentence to refer to the sufferings and sacrificial of lives, he forms a kind of irony because the innocent did nothing wrong yet they had to pay a heavy price with their lives.

4. Personal Response

From this poem, ‘Rainbow Death’, it made me reflect quite a bit and that the opinion of the writer that war is brutal and harsh, and will only bring unhappiness, sufferings and even deaths is matter-of-factly very true. In a war, as both sides tried to achieve victory, they will resort to anything that is able to defeat their enemy. However, this will only cause more harm to the innocent ones. In this poem, the Americans, being driven by the desperation of defeating Vietnam, resorted to using the ‘Agent Orange’ and bombed villages and cities in hopes of killing Vietnam troops but as a result, innocent villagers and children had to pay a huge price and even affected generations.

In addition, I share the same sentiments with the poet that the cruelty of war will resulted in many sacrificial of lives and that war should be considered as a last alternative to settle disputes and they must learn that ‘wars aren't over when wars are over’, meaning that war will cause dire consequences even if it has ended.

Task 1: I will be doing my web research and report based on the conflict represented in Hubert Wilson’s Rainbow Death. Below is the poem:

Hubert Wilson

Firstly, I would like to enlighten you on some information about the poet Hubert Wilson.

Hubert Wilson
Ssgt USAF, 1968-1972

Hubert Wilson was formerly a Vietnam War veteran who served in the USAF security service. Together with a dozen or so intelligence school graduates, they prepped for about 14 months at Kelly AFB in San Antonio, Texas. They were sent to Vietnam in Southeast Asia in 1970 and about half of them ended up in the 6924th Security Squadron, Da Nang, which was an Agent Orange hotspot. The rest of them were assigned to Shemya Island, Alaska along with the 6984th Security Squadron, which was a far less contaminated environment than Da Nang.

After staying there for about 18 years, and due to the increasingly amount of Agent Orange that was present there, his health problems progressively got worse and he started to have unexplained headaches and limb pains. Following that, his central nervous system radically deteriorated with Parkinsonian type tremors, severe headaches, progressive limb pains etc. No doctors had been able to diagnose the illness at that time, and thus, he was not able to receive any medical help or assistance from any doctor.

Despite the difficulties, he did not give up but instead decided to turn to writing war poetry as his past-time since his brain was still functioning moderately well and also to remind himself of all the painful war times that he had been through, publishing one of his most famous poem

“Rainbow Death”

Rainbow Death Analysis (:

This poem, Rainbow Death, speaks of a modern day ingredient of warfare during the Vietnam War that has caused appalling death and suffering, not only to its intended victims - the Vietnamese people, but also to the USA themselves, who were the service personnel that used and started the dreaded nuclear weapon -“Agent Orange”, and this shows how in a war, both sides, no matter what, will get hurt or suffer consequences in one way or another, hence, there is no such thing as ‘Win-Win’ situation in a war, like we do in Hwa chong (:

“Agent Orange”, is the code name for a herbicide and defoliant, highly contaminated with TCDD. It is used by the U.S. military in its Herbicidal Warfare program during the Vietnam War. During the war, about 4.8 million Vietnamese people were exposed to Agent Orange, resulting in a total number of 400,000 deaths and disabilities, with 500,000 children born with birth defects.

From 1962 to 1971, Agent Orange was by far the most widely used of the so-called "Rainbow Herbicides" employed in the herbicidal warfare program. During the production of Agent Orange, dioxins were produced as a contaminant, which could be the reason for the numerous health problems in millions of people who have been exposed to them. Agents Blue and White were also part of the same program but they did not contain any dioxins and was thus not as harmful as Agent Orange.

This poem “Rainbow Death” is basically to bring up the issue on the consequences of war. Hubert tries to show that even after war has ended, the effects of these wars would still stay (radiation etc) and the pain and sufferings of war would linger behind in the minds and hearts of people forever.

“Wars aren't over when the wars are over”.

Hubert Wilson also tries to show us the horror of modern warfare. As technology continues to improve, our weapons of war becomes more powerful and more destructive. From the title,
“Rainbow Warfare” may mean two things. It could mean the rainbow agents like Agent Orange in the herbicidal warfare program (there were many colours for their code names) or it could mean 'peace' (rainbow) after warfare (rain).

Ok as you all know that this week is sabbaticals and yeah I went to 电影超人变变变!
It may sound a bit childish to you and for us as well when we first went to this sabbaticals (:
However, after the first day, we found out that movie-watching was all we did in class and the movies were not those kind of boring and old movies but they were movies which were just released not long ago (But the bad thing is that they didn't show us any English movies:D) and all those chinese movies that we watch were engaging and "addictive" and the movie that I felt left the deepest impression in my mind was actually "Bodyguards and Assassins" which was actually a NC-16 movie but.. who cares? :)

To give a overview, Bodyguards and Assassins is actually a movie of a group of ordinary men and women who actually possess extraordinary fighting skills. They must protect the one man Dr. Sun Yat-Sen who holds a nation’s fate and he must survive relentless attempts on his life with only these five bodyguards.
Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, the Father of Modern China has come to China to investigate the revolution of 1911 that overturns the Qing Dynasty, and his life is almost cut short when he arrives at Hong Kong for a secret meeting to establish a united anti-Qing revolutionary front.
Against hundreds of assassins, the five bodyguards must put their courage to the test in order to protect the hope of millions even if it means fighting to the death…

This movie is a one of a kind movie as I feel that it describes very clearly about the tough times that the Chinese were facing and how hard it was to overthrow the Qing government and restore "humanity" to the Chinese. Following that were the sacrifices of the 5 bodyguards and how they sacrificed their lives for the sake and the future of their country and how hard they fought to prevent the assassins from achieving their goal, that is to murder Sun Yat-Sen.

The movie moved us and we were all touched by how the bodyguards, even tho' heavily outnumbered, were still resilient and they didn't give up, fighting to the last breath and till the last minute. With many twists in the plot, we were taken aback at some parts of the story and the nicest part of the movie was the superb fighting scenes and dramatic actions. (:

One of the characters in the movie was Wang Fuming and I loved this character as he is somewhat of a "human giant" with hands four times bigger than an ordinary human's. He is an outcast monk from the Southern Shaolin Monastery who became a stinky toufu vendor. and seeks redemption in order to return to his former monastery. He has a gigantic build and possesses immense strength. However, he was the first of the five to be killed after being stabbed numerous times by the assassins but reappears one last time to destroy a structure to block the assassins' path and then sacrifices himself and stalling time for the other bodyguards to make their escape.

Either record the interview or write out the interview transcript.

Haha so for this interview, I really wanted to interview my hci friends at first as I feel that since they have learnt about prejudice and discrimination through mockingbird, they will most probably have a deeper understanding and should be able to give an even detailed explanation on what is prejudice and discrimination.

However, Since friends not from HCI are all in school now, then I'm left with interviewing my parents. As my mum speaks mostly in chinese, it will be hard for me to interview her in English and then translate her answers from Chinese to English, therefore I think my dad will be a much better choice(:

Ok, to start off, I began asking my dad the definition of prejudice and discrimination.
Q: Dad, what do you think is the definition of prejudice and your opinion on it?
A: The key distinction in the definition of Prejudice is in its reference to pre-judgment. For example, deciding on a person’s qualities, characteristics and their race, before knowing the facts. In general, prejudice refers to “any unreasonable attitude that is unusually resistant to rational influence.” and it is synonymous to ''bias'' and ''prepossess''.

Q: Dad, now may I ask you what do you think of discrimination?
A: Discrimination simply refers to the recognition of differences among people and making choices based upon those qualities, whether a not they are perceived or real.

Afterthat, I start to focus on discrimination and the different types of discriminations.
Q: Then, how do you feel of the term "racial discrimination"?
A: Hmm.. I feel that Racial Discrimination means any exclusion, restriction or preference based on race, color, or national origin which has the purpose of nullifying or impairing the recognition, enjoyment, on an equal footing, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural or any other field of public life.
Q: Can you give examples of Racial Discrimination?
A: For example, based on this definition of Racial Discrimination, racial profiling by police would be considered racial discrimination.

Lastly, I ended the interview with examples of prejudice(:
Q: Can you give a few examples of prejudice in our daily life?
A: Prejudice can take many forms. Some are natural, such as a parent being prejudicial when it involves their child. A parent's natural instinct is to unconditionally accept what their child is saying without "looking at both sides" of a situation. Some are taught, such as prejudice against people who are of a different nationality, color, or religion. This is not just one-sided, for example, white against black. I've known many black people who were prejudiced but didn't think they were as well as white people who thought the same.

Who would you want to be friends with in the novel? Explain. O_O

Basically, I would like to make friends with everyone in the novel because Harper Lee has crafted deep and detailed images of all the characters in the story in our minds and the characters like Boo Radley and Atticus Finch makes the story a bit more engaging and interesting because of their different personalities and characters and I believe that it will be fun to make friends with people of different kinds and expand your social network so as to not make yourself a boring and as what we call "emo" person(:

If I were to choose just one character, I would like to be friends with Boo Radley. Boo Radley is a very mysterious figure that did not appear frequently in the novel, appearing only at the first few chapters of the book and at the end where he saved Jem and Scout from Bob Ewell. This makes the character very mysterious and gives readers a feeling of wanting to find out more about him and have a deeper mutual understanding of him.
Therefore, I would like to make friends with him and then know more about him, his personal life and why he is so shy and embarrassed and maybe show him the way to the light and make him break free from his lonely cycle(:

Furthermore, the people in Maycomb seem to have many prejudices against the Radleys and thus as rumours spread, it gives an impression on people that the Radleys are bad and more and more people will stay away from them and thus making them feel even more lonely and isolated. Like for example, they did not follow the Maycomb custom and warshipped at home instead, therefore, they are isolated from Maycomb society and this is a case of a religion prejudice.

Hence, I feel that by making friends with Boo and his family, I can show to the world that Boo is not what they think he is and he is actually just a quiet and innocent boy who is wrongly mistaken by the world. If I can show that I can be friends with Boo Radley, people will know that being different is not a bad thing and perhaps they may not have prejudice against other people anymore.

40 questions of Multiple Intelligence was not that simple at all. Beforehand, I thought that I would be a musical person because I love music kay like Lady Gaga Bad Romance etc. (:
However, I would never have expected that I was an Interpersonal and Intrapersonal boy which is actually both people smart and.. myself smart? haha guess I know myself very well :D

Hmm.. Wow I think my interpersonal skill is high cuz maybe its because of me liking to interact with people and be a so-called team player rather then someone who works alone(: Haha I am so not a pest kay -.- Because you may need this set of intelligence when you grow up and start to work with people you get to know one day, sometimes its hard for you to survive on your own, without anyone's guidance and help and thus I feel that Interpersonal is actually very important for your -ahem- "survival" (:

Haha, as for Ok, as for intrapersonal, maybe the test screwed up a bit, but I believed that since its a "Multi-Intelligence Test" it should be quite accurate :D Maybe I know ME and have an enhancing self-esteem, along with a bit of self-awareness. The meaning of intrapersonal also includes "improving problem-solving skills and analyzing abilities." and "the need for increasing self-control and reducing the level of stress". and I know that I have self control and yeah will never find myself as stressed(: As for problemsolving skills, I hate maths haha but I think I can analyze problems and maybe I do have some problemsolving skills:D
*It is important in life to be your own best friend rather than your own worst enemy. Beneficent Intrapersonal communication is the key to loving oneself. And I feel that by loving yourself, you will have the ability to love others and create good energy. *

Chinese New Year! Red Clothes, Oranges Ang Paos and most importantly holidays!
Omg cant believe I am posting about the cnyy celebration just a day after I've revived my blog. :D
Anyway cny was ~~boring~~ fun 'cuz its great that we had a long 4 days holidays and yarh no homework and just mahjong, tibits and tv the whole day :D

Hey hey.. Haha 2nd day of IT on9 lessons
Will be touching on famous poets and stuff like that. ^^

Question: Choose a poet by going online to a couple of the internet sites such as Poets.org (Academy of American Poets website) or American Poetry Online. Blog on your favorite poet. Your entry should be approximately 400 words.

Answer: Hmm.. I would say that Robert Pinsky is my favorite poet. I find Robert intriguing as he uses figurative language in many of his poems and exaggerates and emphasizes on his main points, using words to play with our emotions like making us sad at one moment and happy at another. he also toys with the sounds and rhythms of sentences in his poems.
Another point that shows he is intriguing is from his interview with Encarta Yearbook. He arouse our interest when:
Encarta Yearbook asked, '' Do you see poetry flowering or withering as the next generation grows up in a world connected by the Internet? "

And he replied, '' Poetry seems to be flourishing in reaction to the fluidity and highly duplicable, mass quality of electronic media. I like my computer, my TV, my VCR, my CD player—but they are by their nature, each of them, inherently a mass medium. The CD performance happens in no one place, but is created electronically and can be multiplied indefinitely. The poem takes place in each reader's voice. We crave both. "

And he ended it with "The human appetite for art, I believe, is infinite."
This line shows his passion and motivation to poetry writing and his believe that poetry writing will be flourish in the years to come.

Who is he:
Robert Pinsky is an American poet and former Poet Laureate of the United States (1997-2000). He is known for his innovative, personal style, and his use of contemporary themes. Pinsky is a professor at Boston University where he teaches in the graduate creative writing program.
His collection of essays:
Landor's Poetry was published in 1968 and was followed by other essay collections in 1977 with The Situation of Poetry and Poetry and the World (1988) which was nominated for the National Book Critics Circle Award in Criticism. He received a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship in 1974 and in 1975 published his collection of poems, Sadness and Happiness.

The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood

How are the figurative language used in the poem? Give the specific word(s), explain what type of figurative language it is and why the poet chose to use this figurative language?
Answer:
It is used as metaphors and hyperbole.
'Two roads diverged in a yellow wood' is a metaphor as they are choosing road like choosing paths in life. Some roads are dangerous like some paths of life are risky. The poet uses metaphor here as he wanted to emphasis on the importance of decision-making.
In Line 2, 3 and 4, 'and' is a hyperbole and is used as a exaggerated statement. The poet wants to invoke an emotion and exaggerate that he can only make one choice. And he had only one chance to make the right move.
Question:
Tell us why you like this poem in no less than 100 words.
Answer:
I like this poem as the poet uses the roads of a forest to link with paths of life. He emphasizes on how important his decision was and he had only one chance to make the correct move. The poet includes interesting punctuation which tell us about the poet's feeling like the dash in stanza 4 ,line 3. It tells us that the writer paused, probably, hesitating and pondering on which path to take. He too uses quite a lot of figurative language which makes the poem more realistic and interest the reader more.
Finally,after much decision,the writer chose the one less traveled, which presents the writer's personality,he is an adventurous and curious man, has the courage and willing to take risks.

Haha I'm going to do another Language Arts Blog Prompt and as usual, in Perfect English ^^
So, I've done the blog prompt on my least favorite character, if you have read my previous post ( Not the one on random pics of course! xD) and I've stated that Hari's father is my most disliked.
Hmm.. I would say that Hari's journey in Bombay was the part which I like best. Firstly, Anita Desai's describes very well the urban people and their living lifestyle in Bombay, about how bustling and hectic the living environment is. She too emphasises that there are also some peple like Hari living in urban areas as in the case of Jagu's family, who lived in shacks made out of rags and flattened tin cans called 'zopadpatties'. I also like how Desai describes that there are also caring and kind-hearted people in the world, despite the ever changing climate and technology that we're having now. Desai also adds in some hurmour on some parts of the dialouge conversation between Hari and Mr Panwallah and gives the reader a sense of dread and suspense at the coconut seller and begger part, where she said that '' By day he uses his knife on coconuts but by night he uses it on..." keeping the reader in shock and suspense.
So, to conclude, Hari's trip to Bombay is the part that I like best but I would say that every part of the book is enjoyable as Desai writes soo well, playing around with our emotions and keeping us in suspense most of the time. ^^

Ok, another LA blog prompt that will be in * Perfect English * haha xP
Hmm... Talking about Village by the Sea, it's a really nice novel that is suitable for 'young adults' like us. It shows the contrast between urban and rural areas and it talks bout how a poor and pitiful family survives in a small fishing village in India, about how they fight for their freedom, their rights and their survival -- a well-loved book by all 1o2s haha ^^
So, to get to the point, I would focus on my least favorite first. Kays, many people would think that Biju is the most hated character in the book. However, I would prefer Hari's father as my least favourite character. Although he did turn over a new leaf at the end of the story, if it weren't for his toddy addiction in the first place, they would not have faced so much hardships and painful memories. Pinto, who got brutally slaughtered, was one good example of losing their loved one due to toddy addiction. If Hari's Dad was a hardworking, dutiful person, he would have gone to work to bring home the bacon. Now, due to toddy, he became useless and or as what Lila referred him to -- a heap.
If not for Hari's quick thinking to go to Bombay to look for jobs, their family would have met severe consequences due to their finicial difficulties, most of their finance going to the purchasing of toddy. Although Hari's Dad DID tried to find a job at first but in the end was cheated, he should not turn to toddy to forget his sorrows but should stand up again from where he fell and strive towards his goal -- to give his family a good and blissful life.
So to end it.. TODDY IS THE SOLE CAUSE OF THEIR FAMILY'S MISERY!!

Haha, here's another blog prompt that I'm going to do for the June holidays! *And it'll be in proper Language Arts English* * Dun worry ^^*
Hmm... Although I've never lived in the countryside before, I always thought that life away from the hustle bustle lifestyle that we have now will be wonderful. At least we can have a break from the busy and hectic life, away from stress, away from pressure. Just relaxing in our cosy little cottage enjoying the cool breeze, sipping a hot cup of moca, without anything to worry about. Rearing animals, cultivating crops, doing what a normal villager does -- no worries, a care-free lifestyle.
However, living in the countryside is not always good, living a normal daily routine everyday in the countryside, viewin the same scenary, doing the same stuff every single day -- there areno special surprises whatsoever.
In the city, you can try out new things, try new sports, learn new talents that can make life more entertaining and enriching. Education is also something you will surely get in the city and rarely in the countryside. learning new vocabs for english, learning new equations and techniques in mathematics etc. which can be of great help in your later life when you grow up to become a man of some importance. And by then, money would start rolling into your hands and you can relax everyday in your office enjoying your hot cup of moca, you would not have to bother about growing crops or rearing animals for a living like what you do at the countryside.
So my conclusion? Its best to be both rats^^ haha :D

The book that made an impact in my parents' lives

Hmmm.... Gona revive my blog with this very post xD
Didn't know that I haven blogged for so many days til I saw the date of my previous post.. 22nd May!! Omg.. It was so long ago.. So here goes the update...
There's one such book that changed my parents' lives. It's a duper thick book called The Mammoth Book of War Correspondents.
Ok, you may think that a war book is none other than a normal book and has no importance whatsoever, but this war book is compiled painstakingly by survivors of war and gives more than a hundred eye witness accounts of the reality of human conflicts. The day when I handed this book to them, they were full of awe...
Seriously they just grab the book and then got hypnotized by it. But not kidding, the pictures were so realistic and clearly depicts how selfish man could be to be fighting again its own kind to get to his own goals...
My parents *to say the truth* even shed some tears during the middle of the story. They hav changed a lot, learnin that life is precious and we should treasure every second of our life. They hav learn the importance of defense in the country and became more generous and less arrogant..
My Dad even started writing his own war book, no wonder people say that writers and journalists have been drawn to the dangerous war zones like moths to a flame..

Mayb his title would b " War is hell, and that's the truth."

Another day

A practically normal day on thursday...
Nothing much happen today except for a very easy infocom test that i did in the morning...
This blog post is suppose to b on thursday and i'm late by 1 day xD
I memorised the infocomm topics like dunno how many hrs on wednesday like how to use patch tool, etc but the only step question that came out was how do use a healin spot brush tool... And i didn't study that!!! Ahhh!! Sure fail that part de...
Anyway, got on bus 156 n was on the way bck home...
then a nan yang girl sitting in front of me was sleeping and her head was like leaning on the seat bar or somethin... then her hairband dropped from her head and i was sitting behind her!! Ahhh... everyone looked at me as I handed her da hair band... You know how';s the feeling like when ppl stare at u xD

Omg... found that I didn't use the computer for so many days and suddenly found that I've bout 100 emails in my inbox... -.- apparently someone spammed me xD
Done quite a lot of stuff these few days like goin to do beach cleaning for CIP and going to the Choa Chu Kang stadium to watch the track and field finals ( which was today...)
The beach cleaning was so 'meaningful' luhh... tanbb was our 'guide' for the day and he was very funny... Walking around and saying " Boys, pick up that rubbish if not all the marine life will die!!! Ahh!!!! faster pick up that rubbish! Ahhh!!!!" (something like that... =D )
We also saw something like a soft white blob on the beach... Tzyy yeou and Ruiyu said that it was ' xue ge' then when we got back to the shelter where we placed all our bags, tzyy yeou took out his notes on marine life and told me that those were jellyfish... Was lucky that i didn't used my bare hands to touch it ( although i wish to feel its tenderness xD)
Ended with a hand slapping game that gary showed us...
Its a game where u hold hands with another person and then u play scissors paper stone with him...
If u lose, he will slap your hand and if he lose, you will in turn slap back...
It is extremely pain, please do not try this at home xD

Got knee muscle cramp and got hit by the ball on my head ><
Worst of all, got finger sprain and bruises all over me...

Today's infocomm was quite enriching and we learnt animations and how to do a movie clip!
Kent Cheong was like so furious with Yu Ding for not handing up his assignments on time...
Managed to do a car and shaped it into a banana... ( Banana Car) Wanted to add some houseflies on top of the banana but I drew them like big ugly butterflies instead of houseflies... Grrr...

Wow, first time in facebook and guess what?
That website was so messy and complicated I almost had a headache looking through all those quizzes and applications...
But guess what? Managed to finally settle down...

Chee was Honorary Research Associate at the Monash Asia Institute in 1997 and at the University of Chicago in 2001. In 2004, he participated in the Reagan-Fascell Democracy Program at the National Endowment for Democracy in Washington, D.C.. He is the Chairman of the Alliance for Reform & Democracy in Asia, and was a Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellow at the Washington-based National Endowment for Democracy (2004). I was totally oblivious and was told by Rui Yu that yesterday 9pm was Earh Hour!!!

I totally missed it man... And during that time I was like consuming so much electricity, playing computer games and watching television programmes at the same time...And ya, eating a packet of potato chips * Yums* ^^ ( Jack n Jill potato chips are much yummier and tastier than Lays^^)

Running out of time now...
But just want to say that the Gala Dinner we had on Saturday was simply marvelous!
Ok , it was not as bad as I imagined it would be...
But at least one of the dishes was scallop and I ate 3!! =)
I even saw a double rainbow in the sky, one on top of the other... tried to take a photo but it was too dark...
Rui Yu, was so suave that day... He was like wearing a Sec 4 pants and a crisp new white uniform and had a red tie...
Ya as everyone already knows... he performed on stage singing the 'Hua Gang' theme song... The song was nice actually... Quite soothing ^^

Oh sorry guys...

Anyway, today didn't turn out quite well...
Don't know why but today's volleyball training was like hell man,
Coach was very pissed off today... ( sorry but I got to use pissed as it is the only word which is strong enough to emphases Coach's feelings)
He was shouting like mad at every minor mistake we made... And his face really really really seems like it was going to burst with anger... His veins were popping out and erm... it was scarryyy.
Intended to go to 1o2's class gathering but found that it was canceled!! But never mind, at least we're going to watch a movie during April i think...
Tzyy Yeou ( yay spelt it correctly^^) was so happy that it was canceled =)
But we're still going to meet up on Saturday due to Gala Dinner...
And I'm looking forward to it^^

Today was like super lucky...
Didn't have any training due to bad weather^^ ( truth was I kept praying that there would not be any volley training today because I was too exhausted from the previous day [tuition, tuition and tuition of course] and like what Zhi Yong said a 'hoax' had been casted on the weather and I succeeded.. Muahahaha =)
Anyway, was walking and trudging my weary footsteps home when I came across a notice on a traffic light and it was kinda drenched...
But it was super funny..

In case you have difficulties reading, it says that a bird was lost on 22 Feb and his wife is pregnant and waiting for him to feed... And it says that a $5 dollar reward will be given if found...

Survived camp

Wow, didn't blog for so many days...
Anyway, we went for our Sec 1 camp for the past three days...
And, tell you what...
It is not that fun ( actually I wanna say it suck but must be more 'kind')^^
The whole Sec 1 cohort was like squeezing one other and there was totally no space to walk about...
The tent was very small and 8 of us had to squeeze in like air being compressed in a cylinder...
But the best part of the camp was the mud bath... Also commonly known as the Milo Pond
It's the part where you climb a ladder up, up and up till the top and then slide down a long slide down into the mud pool and get yourself dirty!=)

Finally, I survived the grueling Sec 1 camp!!!!
Yesterday night couldn't sleep well, Tze you (dunno how spell) was like kicking me the whole night... Ouch...

Today was CRAZY CRAZY CRAZY!!!!
Volleyball training we slacked and relaxed like we never did before...
Coach was feeling quite sleepy today and he only concentrated on teaching the sec 3 and 2.
Although he did shout at me for not being able to spike the ball well enough, i still managed to set and ( gang qiu) in Chinese. ^^
Ok... You guys may not know the meaning of this two words, but never mind just ask Zhi Yong or me...
Anyways, after volleyball training, I went to Golden Mile Shopping Centre to buy some camp stuff like the haversack and sleeping bag... ( We're going for the Sec 1 camp on wed and I cant wait!!!)
Then, something CRAZY happened... While my parents and I were shopping, I heard someone calling 'ZHEYI' then i turned around but spotted no one....
Then i turned around, and guess what? Joshua Loh was standing in front of me... Woah!!
I jumped in fright like: Oh my god!!! Teleportation!!!
Then we chatted and we walked, shopped, walked, shopped...

Spent a few hundreds on my camping stuff! XD
Couldn't believe that a small bag costs $68!!!! Haiz...That Shop Uncle definitely earned a lot of money...

Super busy day...
Andy, Zhi Yong, Jun Xuan and I was like rushing through our proposal on the project's day compeititon this morning... Everyone, especially Andy was so anxious [ Kan Chiong in Hokkien or Cantonese... forget le...=)]
Then, we rushed into the staff room to book our mentor but our mentor said that our topic was too vague and disorganised and thus rejected our proposal...
We were all so disappointed and we decided to change to doing innovation instead... Haiz...
Felt rather sad and pityful for Tze Hou actually, his phone got confiscated by Dennis and was asked to write a letter of explaination to Dennis Ong. However, his letter was too informa and teacher called him to rewrite and submit to him tomorrow... And now Tze Hou's phone is like locked up in a locker in Dennis office alone waiting for his rescuer to come and save it. haha.
My neck stay ached from the volleyball training we had on Sat... Can even turn 90 degress around... Argh~

Today went for volleyball training... I missed my volleyball training for exactly two weeks!!!
I was so frightened that coach would scold me... Nevertheless, an old man like him tends to forget things and i got away Scot-free ( i don't know what's the exact spelling...) and dear coach no offense!!! Forgive me^^ haha. Sarcastic~
Anyways, met quite a lot of new friends at volley today and they taught me with patience what i had missed the past few lessons...
Zhi Yong was like feeling very faint during the training and he even when into the toilet to vomit... When I told him to tell coach that he was not feeling well, he refused and said that he will persevere till the end...And he did... hahas ^^
We also helped Rui Yu to find his choir room... He was like so LOST without us... He didn't no which way to go...

Today was the dreadful day when Mr Yong, our maths teacher revealed to us our math marks...

I thought that i had failed the test, as I normally did not have much confidence in my maths (its my poorest subject in primary school^^)
But when the results were finally announced, i was sooo relieved - I passed with flying colors!!!!
However, some students were not as lucky as me.
My primary school friend, Xu Yang, who always had confience of himself, failed terribly... ( i won't say his marks^^)
Of course, he vowed to work harder for his upcoming science test.

Wow...
Got baffled by the tough infocomm and geography tests today...
They were so extremely difficult, two new subjects that weren't thought in primary school!!!
Luckily, I had prepared well... hehe^^
After school, Zhi Yong and I went to the gym to do some workouts...

Hey fans out there!
I'm blogging in the middle of the night! Hahas! ^^

Ok... Anyway, today was quite a hectic day for me...
The lessons conducted today were quite fun as Mr Lau and Miss Lim guided us through the steps of writing a complaint letter... It was quite hard in fact, but once you got the hang of it, its actually quite fun!!

After school hours, Zhi Yong, Si Hao and I decided to go to the computer lab to vote for the MOF buget debate finals where Raffles Institution was leading 100 points ahead of our Hwa Chong. When we entered the computer lab, a teacher who looks kinda 'weird' immediately asked us to sit down and vote for our Hwa Chong team by using our emails to activate the Stomp account and then voting for Glendon, the debator from Hwa Chong. We did our best, creating one email account after another and then voting and voting and voting again.
It was a tedious job actually, but we finally made it!! Hwa Chong now leads by 30 points ahead of Raffles!!! Wow, we were so engross in voting that we didn't realised that it was 4pm already!!!

This is from a book I read called 'Little Ironies' where in a certain chapter,
Adeline who is a very young girl faces too much pressure from her parents, whom have very expectations of her to pass her examinations, and thus could not concentrate on her studies and failed her examinations by just one mark. Afraid to face her parents, she plunges to death...

So who is the real 'murderer' ?

In my opinion, i would say that her parents killed her. Adeline's parents wanted Adeline to get good grades so that they will have face in the world. However, they did not know that what they were doing was creating mounting pressure on the poor child. Adeline knew she could not fail this time or else she was sure to get a good caning. With this kind of stress and pressure, she could only end her pains and sufferings by committing suicide...

Hey guyz! I'm blogging again!^^

Erm... I'm kinda like answering teacher's blog prompt actually.... Hehe..

Mr Lau and Miss Lim ask: How do you think our education system can be improved?

Me:

Our education system can be improved by incorporating career guidance and counselling in the school syllabus. This would require the inclusion of career counsellors who would guide students in making informed decisions as they choose subjects and courses at higher institutions of learning.

The counsellors would assess the students' personal abilities through tests that should be made part of the subject content. This would help the students to discover their full potential (other abilities) in addition to the academic competence, which they can base on to choose careers that suit their interests.

It will also expose students to numerous opportunities for job creation driven by personal individual interests.

So in simpler words, I think that we can improve education by putting in more interesting and fun teamwork games in our daily lessons, or we could do an outdoor english lesson! That would be sooo great!!^^

Before ending my post, there is one motto that i think is very important and we must all understand it:

Learning is a process you do, not a process that is done to you

See the second pic? That is one of the endangered species of tortoises in the world... According to experts, they say that some people there actually ate tortoise meat and sold their shells for money... Eww! How could they!

And the first pic was a lucky shot of a GOLDEN dragonfly resting on a rock. Notice i specify the word GOLDEN as that species of dragonfly was very rare and hard to spot, needless to say capturing it with my handy-dandy camera!!! How lucky!!^^

Wow! Today was one hectic day...

We went to the com lab and Ms Lim explained to us the policies of blogging and also teached us what is the right way to blog... That is... IN PERFECT ENGLISH... No short form whatsoever... How I wish we could write in short form... ><

Anyway, she even thought us how to write a killer blog!! WOW! O.O [Pst. I didn't even know there was such a thing called a killer blog! I must say she is a very good english teacher and a good blogger, wonder whether her blog is better then mine. Haha.]

My classmates started creating their very first blog today and most of them were like having a 'I must write a blog! Its so interesting!' attitude. Wish we could blog more as a class together like today again in the future... ^^

Excursion to science centre!!!

Friday visited the GIGANTIC science centre!!!
It truly RULEZ...
A dinosaur [about 7 metres tall] greeted us...
It roared and er... shook its tailie up and down... ^_^
Lessons took place in one BIG hall... It was a talk+ experiment kind of lesoon...
First part was V. BORING but got break in middle...
Got a 'Roomarang' and a Periscope from a store while others are GOBBLING their food...
The second part of lesson was more interesting...
Got to see a FIREBALL!!! Huge and er... HOT!!!
Fun!!! But gotta leave at 12.00pm while other people still watching... So SAD...
